Propelling Your Business Through a Pandemic

Written by Lara Millican
There’s no denying we’ve all had to adjust our businesses these past couples of months thanks to Covid-19. Business during a pandemic is no walk in the park, that’s for sure! We’ve had to adjust hours, limit people that are allowed inside our stores, completely close down, layoff employees, the list goes on. Our “normal” after this is going to be different, but how can we take advantage of these times and our future new normal?

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new

A lot of businesses have almost been forced to turn their efforts online, either via social media or websites. Maybe this is a good thing? Shopping has been going digital for a while now, just more so now that people are staying home. Now is the time to make sure your online presence is strong and to make sure you can drive sales even when your store isn’t open. Once the country is opened back up completely, people may still be worried about being in large crowds or even in public at all. We, as businesses, need to remember to stay on top of our digital presence now more than ever to make sure we are available now while everything is shut down, and later when it’s open.

If your business is open right now, I’d bet you aren’t seeing many people in person like you were before. You need to make sure you’re catching them online instead! I’ve seen a lot of businesses offering online ordering and curbside pickup or shipping since people can’t come into the store. I’ve seen businesses delivering their products within a certain mile radius from their shop. People are getting creative, and it’s amazing! Make sure you’re still hustling. Post pictures daily of your products, make sure people know you’re open, take some time to show a little love to other businesses who are going through the same thing. We really need to remember to keep this up when things are “normal” again. Convenience is something people will always appreciate, so offering these “pandemic services” for the long-term could really be beneficial to your business.
If your business isn’t able to operate right now, it’s the perfect opportunity to really amp up what you’re doing online. Take this time to amp up your social media, perfect your website, create advertising that can be used either now or in the future. Just because your business isn’t open, doesn’t mean you can’t work on it! Don’t let this pandemic get you down, we can, no we WILL get through this, and we will come out stronger than ever!
